Job Description

I currently require (an) illustrator(s) to work on a number of children’s projects on a self-employed basis. This is ad hoc work, so would be suitable for part-time workers, students or those building a CV or portfolio.

All payment will be on a profit-share basis only, payable after publication. Artists will retain all copyrights to their work, but must adhere to publishing contracts and legislation.

Please send a CV with covering letter explaining why you feel you would be a good candidate for the position, and how you fulfil the above criteria. For this position, please also provide four samples of your own original artwork. Please ensure that all supporting samples are representative of the scope of your work, and are good quality copies – scanned copies and photographs of work are acceptable. Please send work samples as email attachments with your CV and cover letter; acceptable formats include: *.jpg/ *.pdf/ *.bmp/ *.gif/ *.tif/ *.psd files). All work sent with the application will remain confidential, will not be shared or publicised, and will be deleted from files within one month of the closing date.

Skills and Experience Required

Essential:

• Experience in producing artwork to a high standard. • Ability to produce original artwork. • Ability to produce large, full colour illustrations on paper or computer that are suitable for reproduction within graphics packages. • An understanding of resolution and image quality/ size if graphics are produced within graphics packages. • Ability to work to a given schedule. • Ability to see a project through to its conclusion. • Self-motivated. • Able to work within given specifications and briefs, with a willingness to edit and streamline illustrations after feedback from the author. • High level of skill in drawing people and animals. • Confidentially and ability to store all materials and computer files related to the project in a secure manner. • Willing to work as a self-employed contractor on a profit share only basis. • Ability to provide a character reference and portfolio/ samples of work.

Desirable:

• Experience of illustrating for children. • Qualifications or formal experience of graphic design and/ or art and design. • Based in the London area. • Enhanced CRB issued within the last 12 months. • Interest or knowledge of history/ archaeology OR interest or travel experience in Morocco. • Ability to use email, ‘Microsoft Office packages’ and ‘Google documents’, or willingness to learn. • An understanding of a range of computer graphics packages. • A basic understanding of copyright law.
