Job Description
Our client, one of the top three commercial vehicle and trailer manufacturers in the UK, is currently looking for a Design Engineer, based in Manchester.
The role : - You will be energetic, creative and skilled in Auto Cad and will develop new and existing products in line with lean manufacturing and DFMA principles. - This will include both component and assembly drawings, following which you will consult with the factory staff to ensure designs are as cost effective as possible both in terms of material costs and ease of assembly.
The job will also include: - Technical support to production teams. - Technical sales support to sales personnel. - Involvement with the team in our lean manufacturing and DFMA continuous improvement plan. - Sourcing new materials, components and negotiation with suppliers. - Ensuring all drawings are correctly filed in our new database system.
Skills and Experience Required
Minimum of a HNC equivalent in Mechanical/Production Engineering or relating discipline. Strong draughting skills, 2D however 3D an advantage. Knowledge of lean principles of product engineering. Strong IT skills. Able to work in a fast pace environment to tight deadlines with minimal supervision. Good communication skills.
